Born and raised on a large working farm in rural Pembrokeshire, Jessamy grew up in a family home surrounded by woods and forests. Many childhood days spent roaming free through the trees gave her a deep love and understanding of their form and function. Combining a Geology degree from the University Of Bristol with a natural creativity and formal training in woodturning, Jessamy brings both the art and science of the wood world together to create fascinating, tactile and highly individual pieces for her collections.
Jessamy remains true to her rural Celtic roots. Her connection with nature and all living things is the key to her creativity with wood and she finds the innate structure, beauty and design in every piece from every tree. Her scientific background formed at an exclusive girls’ boarding school is never far behind as her fascination with the cellular composition, soil origin and attributes of world woods shows.
A passionate supporter of the countryside, farming and environmental sustainability, Jessamy follows in the finest family traditions of her Grandfather, the 3rd Baron Merthyr, who, upon his return from World War Two, dedicated himself and the estate to sustainable agriculture and arboriculture, planting the many woods which would later inspire his Grand-daughter Jessamy as she walked in them as a child.
